Born in Santiago de Cuba in 1968. Armando Mariño graduated from the Provincial School of Arts in Santiago de Cuba and the “Enrique José Varona” Superior Pedagogic Institute in Havana, later refining his craft at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam.
Mariño’s work is a unique blend of parody, pastiche, and cultural critique, drawing on a vast repertoire of images from magazines, the internet, books, and art history. His confrontational approach addresses complex issues of race, sex, human trafficking, and cultural identity, making his art both provocative and deeply referential.
Mariño transcends traditional labels, using his multicultural background to inform a dynamic, multilayered painting style.
